Lifeguard Training
Thanks to the McCook Community Foundation Fund, Lifeguard Certification Courses through the McCook YMCA are now 100% funded for those who will work for the McCook YMCA or the City of McCook as a lifeguard!
Blended NEW Lifeguard class:
- Prerequisite Thursday May 16 5:00-9:00
- Friday May 17th 8:00-5:00
- Saturday May 18th 8:00-3:00
Blended New AND Recertification Lifeguards:
- Friday May 24 8:00-5:00
- Saturday May 25 9:00-3:00
- Sunday May 26 1:00-5:00 (No recerts this day-just NEW guards
Blended New AND Recertification Lifeguards:
- Tuesday June 11 8:00-5:00
- Wednesday June 12 9:00-3:00
- Thursday June 13 9:00-1:00 (No recerts this day-just NEW guards)
Participants MUST attend all course times and complete all online tutorials PRIOR to the second day of class. Participants can complete this work during the mandatory administration day.
The physical prerequisites for the course are:
• 15 years old or older by the end of the course
• Treading water for 2 min with no hands
• Two pool lengths of each: front crawl and breaststroke
• Feet first and head first surface dive and sprint swim at least 60 feet
• Pick up 10 lb. object off bottom of the pool (6 ft)
• Climb out of a pool without assistance of ladder or steps
• Perform 100 compression’s on a mannequin
• Listen to verbal directions given
This will be a blended learning class with part on-online, classroom and water skills. Online portion must be completed prior to the first day of class.
Cost is $200*
*If you are planning on working for the YMCA and/or the City of McCook as a lifeguard, the class cost is paid for by the McCook Community Foundation Fund.
